Hi, for my first post I thought I'd introduce myself and what I do.
I'm Sehar, I'm a newborn photographer and owner of Little Lunar Photography based in Oldham, Manchester. I run the business alongside my partner Gavin who does the behind the scenes things for me. Together we have two beautiful (and somewhat feral) boys, Isaiah who is one and Elijah who is five.
This blog is going to running alongside the photography business but also share an insight into our lives and what we get up to in and around Manchester.
I start first with a little bit about how I fell into this job and how I started up the business.
I got my first semi-professional DSLR camera back in 2008 when I was 17, and only after nagging my parents for months for one. My life back then was very music orientated and I wanted to photograph the bands I loved and went to watch live. I loved all of it, the loud music, the energetic environment and the adrenaline rush standing in the photo pit as the first band comes on stage. I got better at it and more opportunities came my way as I started shooting for various outlets which also meant gaining access to popular events as press. I got to photograph some of my favourite bands and it was an amazing experience shooting as press at festivals and shows.
After having my first son I cut down shooting live shows as becoming a mother meant my bedtime had moved forward a few hours to 21:00 sharp in order to function as a human being the next day. I made the decision to change my focus and train in different areas of photography that would suit my life better.
Fast forward a few years and here I am with my own small business. When I started out I was photographing sweaty, shouting men and now it's precious, squishy babies. Oh how things change!
I have recently opened up a brand new studio in Saddleworth which was terrifying and amazing at the same time. It's so lovely to have somewhere away from home to work, completely free from distractions. I've set it up to be a home away from home, I think this is important when working with kids to help them feel as comfortable as possible.
I think I have the best job in the world, I mean who wouldn't want to cuddle brand new adorable babies as their job?
Building a business alongside raising a young family has had its ups and downs and if I am being honest there have been days when I've thought about packing it all in and doing a 9-5 in an office but my clients make it all worth it.
It's the little things such as seeing the expressions on parents faces' when they see their images for the first time and when clients send a photo of their wall art that you've taken, being proudly displayed in their homes and nurseries, it makes it all worth it.
I hope you've gotten to know me and my little business a little bit better and hopefully I'll be seeing you in my studio one day in the near future.
